Our Members on the Move "3 Graduate Firefighter 1"

SLVFD members Damon Jacobs, Ross Dubarry, and Chelsea Tremblay graduated from the New York State Firefighter 1 course offered at the Paul Smiths/Gabriels fire station. The class ran from October until today.

The "Firefighter I" course is designed to prepare the student for work as a "combat ready" interior structural firefighter. The course combines the following courses into 1 complete course. Essentials of Firefighting, Initial Fire Attack, Fire Behavior, Haz-Mat Operations, Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness, and Confined Space Awareness. The course also includes components of Firefighter Survival and Mask Confidence.

A graduation ceremony was held at the Paul Smiths/Gabriels Fire Station today to recognize this achievement. Among the approximately 50 attendees was Assistant Chief Taylor and the graduates family members, but, of special note, Mary (Stunzi) Waterson was able to observe her daughter Chelsea Tremblay receive her diploma. Mary Stunzi in 1987 was the first woman to ever be elected to membership in the SLVFD. Chelsea's membership marks a complete generation of Woman firefighters in the SLVFD.

We would like to congratulate our members, we are very proud of thier achievement.
