The SLVFD would like to welcome our newest probationary member, Brady Stewart.

Brady is a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake with the exception of 2 years between the ages of 16 and 18 when he lived in Saint Regis Falls.

It was during his time in Saint Regis Falls that he served as a “RAM” member with the Saint Regis Falls Volunteer Fire Department. “RAM” members are young members between the ages of 16 and 18 who are allowed to train and actually respond to emergencies. They are allowed to participate up to the extent that have satisfactorily completed training. In Saranac Lake “RAM” members can become full members of the fire department upon attaining age 18. While serving as a “RAM” member they have certain school restrictions regarding response times and maintaining satisfactory academic progress while still in school. It is a great way for these youth to explore the field of firefighting.

Brady who is now an adult will serve a 6 month probationary period with the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, upon completion of his probation time his peers in the SLVFD will vote on his attaining full membership. During probation Brady will attend department training and necessary state fire schools and will be responding to actual emergencies.

Brady is following in his fathers footsteps. Brady is also a member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad where his dad serves as a Lieutenant.

Brady’s hobbies include “Just being with my family and friends, and I enjoy playing football”

Brady says “I joined the fire department because I have always had an interest in being a first responder and a firefighter. My dream is to become a paid firefighter someday in a big city. I just want to be a part of the community and serve and protect”

Members make a huge commitment to the community they serve and in the first years they are subject to a very busy training schedule, We believe the reward is worth the effort and we congratulate Brady for stepping up.

If you see Brady in the community please take a moment to congratulate him and thank him for his service.
