This morning members of the SLVFD and the SLVRS traveled to Ray Brook for Vehicle Extrication Training.

The training included 5 wrecked cars and provided 4 training scenarios. Scenario 1 was a standard upright vehicle which provided a prop for fire department members to practice with tools, remove glass, doors, etc. Scenario 2 was a two vehicle accident with difficult stabilization issues. Scenario 3 was a van on it's side with a live patient needing to be extricated, and scenario 4 was an upside down sedan with a live patient needing extrication. In scenarios 3 and 4 the SLVFD worked at stabilizing the vehicles, and clearing the way for SLVRS members to access and remove a live patient actor.

It was a great opportunity for the SLVFD and SLVRS to train jointly while improving our ability to provide a safe and efficient rescue of our victims.

Training is the lifeblood of our readiness to respond to emergencies in our community. It takes a lot of effort to stay prepared. We are very proud of our members who give so much and stay trained so we can all be a little safer.

We would like to take the time to thank Maddens garage for providing, transporting, placing and disposing the vehicles for us. This training would not have been possible without their assistance.
