It is our duty, honor, and privilege to participate in this year's Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. SLVFD members took time out of their holiday schedule to march and reflect on the sacrifices of those who have passed on before us.

This years activities began with a ceremony at the Saranac Lake Veterans Club to honor the life and service of Dr. Rene Joyeuse, a decorated WWII veteran who was inducted into the Saranac Lake "Walk of Fame" with a plaque mounted on the wall of the Vets Club. Mayor Clyde Rabideau and others spoke of Dr. Joyeuse's heroic service. For more info about Dr. Joyeuse we invite you to read "A Quiet American Hero" at

Following the Ceremony it was parade time and the annual Memorial Day Service and laying of the wreath at Riverside Park. Following the ceremony all were invited back to the vets club for a delicious barbecue.

We are deeply grateful for the sacrifices of those who serve in our armed forces and we also pause to remember the sacrifices of those of the fire service.

For those inclined to do so we ask that you take a moment and click on the button on the left "Honors & Awards". Please take the time to review the names of our Departments Honor Roll, many of whom have passed on before us. Under the same button you can also view the names of our members past and present who have also served in the United States Military.

The SLVFD is an organization of strong traditions. One of those traditions is honoring service. Especially those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our communities.

We will always remember!!!
