The Saranac Lake Rotary Club has graciously donated $640 earmarked to purchase 4 personal carbon monoxide detectors.

Most of us are aware of the danger presented by carbon monoxide and we are familiar with the type of carbon monoxide detectors installed in our personal homes. The personal version of detectors being purchased are to be worn or installed on "first in" equipment such as a medic bag. They can alert a rescuer to the presence of this odorless and tasteless gas. An example of how these detectors can save a rescuers life is in the case of a person found unconcious for no obvious reason. If that reason happens to be carbon monoxide a detector on the EMT's bag would sound alerting him or her to the presence of the poisonous gas allowing for the immeadiate evacuation of the victim and the rescuers.

The Rotary Foundation supports community requests for grants such as this. Grants are requested by current Rotary members for consideration. Rotary member, Dianne Tkach, has secured grant money the last two years for the SLVRS and SLVFD. Last year two automatic defibrillators were purchased with Rotary grant money.

The Rotary club is an international service organization that raises money and gives it back to the community.

The SLVFD and the SLVRS are grateful to organizations and individuals such as the Saranac Lake Rotary Club. Without the support of our great community we would not be able to do the things we do. To learn more about how to help us help you, please click the link to the left entitled "How to Help Us"
