SLVFD members Ryan Siddell and Steven Sweet graduated from the New York State Firefighter 1 course offered at the Westville fire station. The class ran from February 2, 2012 until March 31, 2012. This condensed schedule required a lot of dedication and will power. The course normally takes 3 or 4 months and in this case they completed all of the require modules in only 2 months.

The "Firefighter I" course is designed to prepare the student for work as a "combat ready" interior structural firefighter. The course combines the following courses into 1 complete course. Essentials of Firefighting, Initial Fire Attack, Fire Behavior, Haz-Mat Operations, Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness, and Confined Space Awareness. The course also includes components of Firefighter Survival and Mask Confidence.

A graduation ceremony was held in Westville Saturday March 31st to recognize this achievement. Among the attendees was Assistant Chief Taylor, and SLVFD Fire Prevention Officer Damon Jacobs as well as the graduates family members.

We would like to congratulate our members, we are very proud of thier achievement.
