For the past 3 months SLVFD members Andy McGill, Jeff White, Mike Boon, Bob Nadon, Tim Donaldson, and Jim Stinson have received state training in fire officer development. These members have been contributing 2 nights a week beginning on January 18th and completed thier training this evening. The training took place at both the the Saranac Lake, and the Paul Smiths/Gabriels fire stations. It was attended by students from throughout Franklin County and was taught by New York State Fire Instructor Tom Tucker.

Two seperate courses were taught "Introduction to Fire Officer" and "Fire Officer 1".

"Introduction to Fire Officer" This is the first course in the Fire Officer series, addressing the Fire Officer I job performance requirements of NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications. Topics include assuming the role of company officer, leadership, supervision and management, fire department communications, the company officer's role in safety, emergency response and size-up,
strategy & tactics for single company operations, and incident management.

"Fire Officer 1" This second course in the Fire Officer series continues to examine the transition from
firefighter to supervisor, further addressing the Fire Officer I job performance requirements of NFPA 1021. Topics include group dynamics, information management and budgets, company level training, public education, community relations and labor relations, pre-incident planning, crew resource management, and strategy & tactics for multiple company operations.

We at the SLVFD are very proud of our members achievement and would like to thank them for the time and effort that they so freely give to our department and our community.
