On Saturday 12/9/2023 fire departments from Clinton, Franklin and Essex County participated in a live fire propane firefighting operations refresher course put on by New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. The event hosted by the SLVFD began with a classroom session conducted at the large group instruction room at North Country Community College, followed by a live fire exercise at the Village of Saranac Lake DPW site.

The live fire portion of the training included specially outfitted training props that simulated fires in barbecue grills and propane tanks. A large donation of propane to operate those props was made by Hyde Fuel Company.

Thank you to all the firefighters who participated and to the instructors from NYSOFPC. A special thank you to NCCC and the Village of Saranac Lake DPW for the use of their facilities, and to Hyde Fuel Company for the propane donation. We would also like to the thank the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department for providing a rehabilitation trailer, and the Bloomingdale and Saranac Lake Volunteer fire departments for providing pumpers.
