The SLVFD was dispatched at 7:13 PM on Wednesday September 20, 2023 to a report of a smoke condition and audible alarms going off at 82 Bloomingdale Ave.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a large garbage bag full of Laundry was on fire next to the building outside in the backyard of the structure.

The laundry bag was quickly extinguished and firefighters simultaneously checked the affected 2nd floor apartment where the fire had originally started for fire extension. Some minor overhaul on a wall that had fire exposure was required.

The 2nd and 3rd floor of the building was filled with heavy smoke and SLVFD ventilated the building using smoke ejectors.

The burning bag of laundry had been removed from the 2nd floor apartment prior to SLVFD's arrival by the landlord of the building who tossed it off a back porch into the back yard.

The Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad also responded to evaluate one individual for possible smoke inhalation.

Saranac Lake Village Police and Village Code Enforcement were also requested to assist at the scene.
