SLVFD participates in NNYVFA's annual convention-Brings home some trophies.

Last weekend members of the SLVFD traveled to Louisville to participate in the Northern New York Volunteer Fireman’s Association 123rd Annual Convention. The convention started on Thursday with a golf tournament and past chief’s dinner, Friday the convention continued with the annual meeting as well as memorial service. The convention wrapped up on Saturday with the annual parade, 5k mud run, youth training, chicken barbecue, water-ball competition, firefighter challenge and bed races.

SLVFD Second Assistant Chief Doug Peck, Lieutenant Michael Knapp, Firefighters Justin Fletcher and Codey Lapage entered the water-ball contest. In all 7 departments participated in the double elimination competition. After 2 hours of competition Team SLVFD won the contest. West Carthage came in 2nd and Lowville placed 3rd.

SLVFD 2nd Asst. Chief Doug Peck and Firefighter Justin Fletcher competed in the firefighter challenge. The firefighter challenge is a timed event that consists of putting on protective gear (Including a SCBA Pack), hoisting a 42lb. roll of fire hose up 20ft., Forcible Entry (using a sledge hammer on a chopping simulator), High Rise Pack Carry (Carry a 42lb. pack of hose through a serpentine cone course. , Hose Advance(Dragging a 140ft. 1 ¾ hose 75 feet to knock over a target and a Rescue Drag (Dragging a 180lb. dummy back 106ft) Doug completed this challenge in 2:20 to win the event. Justin completed it in 2:29 to come in 3rd.

SLVFD 2nd Asst. Chief Doug Peck, 1st Lt. Michael Knapp, Firefighters Justin Fletcher, Codey Lapage and Nicole Ottavinia competed in the bed race. The SLVFD team won that event as well.
