Last weekend members of the SLVFD traveled to Louisville to participate in the Northern New York Volunteer Fireman’s Association 123rd Annual Convention. The convention started on Thursday with a golf tournament and past chief’s dinner, Friday the convention continued with the annual meeting as well as memorial service. The convention wrapped up on Saturday with the annual parade, 5k mud run, youth training, chicken barbecue, water-ball competition, firefighter challenge and bed races. SLVFD 2nd Asst. Chief Doug Peck and Firefighter Justin Fletcher competed in the firefighter challenge. The firefighter challenge is a timed event that consists of putting on protective gear (Including a SCBA Pack), hoisting a 42lb. roll of fire hose up 20ft., Forcible Entry (using a sledge hammer on a chopping simulator), High Rise Pack Carry (Carry a 42lb. pack of hose through a serpentine cone course. , Hose Advance(Dragging a 140ft. 1 ¾ hose 75 feet to knock over a target and a Rescue Drag (Dragging a 180lb. dummy back 106ft) Doug completed this challenge in 2:20 to win the event. Justin completed it in 2:29 to come in 3rd. |
