We had a great day!!! Thank you to all who attended our open house yesterday. Every year during fire prevention week the SLVFD opens it's doors to the public. We enjoy the opportunity to visit with folks in the community and show off our equipment.

The main purpose of our event is spreading the word about fire safety. This year we hosted search and rescue demonstrations in a realistic environment. The purpose of those drills was to help teach you what to do in a fire, and to help you help us if we are looking for you in the event your house is on fire. Following the drills the community was able to handle laser guided fire extinguisher simulators to learn the proper technique of using an extinguisher. The correct weight extinguisher simulator does not allow the user to put out the simulated fire if they do not properly pull the pin, aim, and use the proper motion. The simulator actually runs out if it takes the user too long to put out the fire.

As always lots of equipment was on display and plastic hats, literature, and smoke detector batteries were handed out, free of charge.

Enjoy some photos of the days events.
