SLVFD Mourns the loss of Moira firefighter and past SLVFD member and paid driver "Dennis M. Martin"

Dennis M. Martin, 52, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at his home with his loving family at his side. Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Dennis was born August 1, 1961, in Saranac Lake, the son of Robert A. and Jacqueline (Miner) Martin. He graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1980, and on Sept. 25, 1982 he was united in marriage with Sarah Fobare at Saint Bernard's Catholic Church. He began his employment with the Village of Saranac Lake in August of 1980 working in various capacities. In September of 1985 he became a corrections officer with the New York State Dept. of Corrections, working at many facilities. He retired May 1, 2014 as a Captain at the Franklin Correctional Facility. From 1995 until the present he owned and operated "Martin's Small Engine Repair."

Special memories will forever be in the hearts of his wife, Sarah; his children Amanda (John) Pierson of Moira, and Jennifer Martin of Brushton; his parents Robert and Jacqueline Martin of Saranac Lake; maternal grandfather Gordon Miner of Saranac Lake; his grandchildren Austin Frazier, Monique Faubert and Landyn Pierson, of Moira; two step-children Cheyenne Burdo of Moira and Austin A. Pierson of Malone; his sister Michelle (Brian) Kentile of Saranac Lake; his brother Christopher (Jennifer) Martin of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his brother, Robert K.; his maternal grandmother Elizabeth Miner; and his paternal grandparents John and Dorothy Martin.

Dennis was a member of the National Ski Patrol, the Sons of the American Legion Post 939, a member of the Moira Vol. Fire and Rescue, and a past charter member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club, Charter 34.

Dennis enjoyed his motorcycle, NASCAR, various types of racing, camping, traveling with his family and woodworking.

Calling hours are Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, St. Regis Falls, with the Rev. Alfred H. Fish presiding. A celebration of life for Dennis will immediately follow at The American Legion in Brushton.
