The SLVFD held its annual banquet on Saturday 5/15/2010 at the Red Fox. The banquet is a time for us to show appreciation for the hard work put forth by the members. It gives us time to reflect on the difficulties, the successes, the bad times and the good times that have shaped the past year.

This year marked the passing of two former Chiefs of the SLVFD. Vern Wamsganz was a member from 1932-1962 and he served as Chief from 1955-1957. Don Duso was a member of our department for 54 years of which he served 12 as Chief. Don was serving as Chief at the time of his passing. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Don's wife Cherie and family. This year's slide show and Chiefs award were presented with a special tribute to Don and Vern. The banquet is also a time for us to recognize our members who go above and beyond who are deserving of special recognition. The Chiefs Award:
Presented to the Board of the newly formed Rescue Corporation by outgoing Chief Chuck Dobson. In an emotional presentation Chuck who had the difficult task of completing Don's term as Chief told us that he knew how important the formation of the Rescue Corporation was to Don and that he was confident that Don would have approved of his selection. The Plaque was accepted by Cherie Duso. The members of the board named on the plaque are Vernon James, Julie Harjung, Bill Madden, Rhonda Marrone, Mary Brown, Bob Nadon, and Debbie Zerrahn.
